Eve of Contentment

Now is the eve of contentment
made glorious by the sun of the coming year
No lack
only a will
a focus
creating, doing, giving

Now is the eve of contentment
seeds empowered
That determination spread like wild fire
Will stick to deeds like roots in soil,

Now is the eve of contentment
Unwilling swept away
in storm of years gone by
and doubt cease with the immediacy it strikes

Now is the eve of contentment
labour of love
Rewards a dozen
this year and beyond
What is required
True lack satisfied

  1. Beautiful words, Adjura. It is good to be contented on New Year's Eve....as one turns the page and enters a new year. You will be there before I will. Enjoy, and have a wonderful 2013!

  2. This is an interesting take on Richard 3's 'Now is the winter of our discontent' speech. I like your positive spin.
    All the best for 2013.

  9. Hey Adura. This is beautiful. I needed it after reading a particularly depressing blog post. I wish you a magical year of the pen my sweet poet/writer.

  10. Thank you for visiting my poem, Adura, and letting your comment lead me here. How beautiful.
The repetition works very well here to introduce each new way the narrator knows he/she is content. The will, empowering the seeds, determination replacing storms and spreading "like wildfire", and labor, finally, add up to a recipe for continued contentment.

I have been told that once content we cease striving, but here you show that is not true. Contentment is an experience that can be repeated and built on! (As long as one is not a Shakespearean or real villain who will not be satisfied unless someone else is miserable!)

  13. This reads with such a voice of calm resoluteness. I was carried away into a space and time of free will that will produce amazing fruits. I loved it.
